CMPD has charged repeat offender and drug dealer Jeprese Demarius Poole with murder.
Poole was arrested on Wednesday after a 19-year-old was dropped off at a northeast Charlotte hospital on Tuesday with serious gunshot wounds, which later claimed his life, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
The victim was identified as Marquez Alexander Summers has no prior arrests according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect, Demarius Jeprese Poole, 22, was charged with murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
According to police reports on July 09, 2024, around 5:30 p.m. University Division Officers responded to Atrium University in reference to gunshot victim who arrived at the hospital. At 5:36 in the afternoon the victim, Marquez Summers, was pronounced deceased by. Homicide and Crime Scene were requested and responded.
An interview was conducted with the driver of the vehicle that dropped off the victim at the hospital. He stated to CMPD detectives that he had made marijuana deal with the known individual and agreed to meet in the neighborhood behind Rockwell Park.
He advised that his friend, Marquez Alexander Summers, was in the vehicle's passenger seat and was to make the marijuana deal and directed him to the meeting location on Carver Street near Hawkins Place.
The marijuana deal was for $470, the suspect counted the money and then disputed the amount at which point there was an exchange of gunfire. The driver described the suspect as black male, snaggle tooth,. medium skin, with thick dreadlocks.
He provided consent for his cellphone and detectives found one of the last phone numbers he Facetimed with. The phone number located in the phone belonged to the defendant.
He said he was on Facetime with known individual and an unknown black male.
The defendant Poole was also at the hospital suffering from gunshot wound. He told police that he admitted to being present at the shooting and conducting the drug transaction. He admitted to having firearm consistent with 40 caliber cartridge cases located at the crime scene and he matched the physical description of the suspect videoed by the driver of the vehicle that dropped off the victim.
The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. along Carver Boulevard near Rockwell Church Road.
When the arrest warrants were obtained, Poole was already in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on theft charge and outstanding warrants.
Poole has a long history of crimes and not surprisingly all 7 have been dismissed by the Mecklenburg County DA's office. With only a non-support hearing and the larceny case still pending.
