Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a reported shooting on Oakwood Road, just off Statesville Avenue, around 2:30 p.m. last Sunday November 2, 2025. When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Caleb Johnson and 32-year-old Prince Tribble suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men died at the scene.

On Thursday, CMPD arrested Rodriguez Chambers, 22, in connection with the case. Chambers is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, discharging a firearm in the city, possession of a firearm by a felon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

One Charlotte "Media Partner" stated "Detectives determined the incident was isolated and the community wasn't at risk of another attack."

CMPD Charging Affidavit

On November 2, 2025 at 2:24 PM, North Division Officers responded to an ADW with injury call for service. Upon arrival, officers located Prince Tribble and Caleb Johnson lying in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victims pronounced deceased on scene.

Information obtained during the investigation showed that Prince Tribble, Caleb Johnson and Unknown Male, and Rodriguez Chambers arrived at the residence on November 1, 2025 in a gold Buick Regal.

A witness identified that Caleb Johnson was armed with a black handgun and that the four came and went from the residence together numerous times during the next 24 hours.

On November 2, 2025 Rodriguez Chambers and two individuals left 4224 Oakwood Road in-a Toyota Prius, which female inside/4224 Oakwood Road owned. The Prius is observed being used in carjacking at 1301 West Sugar Creek Road with three individuals at approximately 3:00 AM. The Chevrolet Malibu was still in the backyard of 4224 Oakwood Road during the murder investigation. The tag for the Buick Regal was located with the Chevrolet Malibu.

Call Detail Records indicate that Rodriguez Chambers was located around 13301 West Sugar Creek Road at the time of the robbery and then retuned to the rea of 4224 Oakwood Drive.

The owner of the Buick Regal was contacted and her advised the Rodrigues Chambers took his vehicle of October 277, 2025. He advised that he did not permit Rodriguez Chambers to take the car. On November 3, 2025, he obtained a warrant of Rodrigues Chambers for Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle.

Information was obtained during the investigation that after 11 AM, Prince Tribble Caleb Johnson, Rodriguez Chambers and the unknow male were arguing over clothing in the stolen Chevrolet Malibu. Information obtained during the investigation suggests these four were the only individuals present at the residence after 12 PM.

Information from witnesses of the murder advised hearing at least two separate volleys of gunfire. Just after the individual courses of gunfire, a witness heard a male voice saying, "Are you hit?" and shortly after, a gold Buick Regal quickly drove through the yard, and sped quickly out of the neighborhood. Real time crime video shows the gold Buick Regal speeding away from the scene.

Cellphone records place Rodriguez Chambers at 4224 Oakwood Road throughout the day, up until 1.40 PM, after which the phone is cut off, and no further data is available until 4:00 PM, when he is no longer at 4224 Oakwood Road.

Evidence gathered from 4224 Oakwood Road suggests that multiple firearms had been used during the murder and numerous 9mm discharged cartridge casing were recovered. No guns remained on the scene, indication that Rodriguez Chambers and the unknown male had taken Caleb Johnson's firearm.

On October 20, 2025, a carjacking occurred at 300 North Tryon Street. Rodrigues Chambers was identified as a suspect in the case, and a 9mm discharged cartridge casing was collection. A NIBIN Lead was obtained linking his discharged cartridge casing to a discharges cartridge casing from 4224 Oakwood Road.

Due to the above information, I request a warrant be issued for Rodriguez Chambers for tow count of First-Degree Murder.

It is assumed that CMPD is still looking for the "unnamed" second person.

Cedar's Take:

CMPD and local media will discount this double homicide as not a random attack. The idea is that this sort of thing happens in a big city and that as the mayor has said before 'By and Large Charlotte is a safe city".

Yet every year there are a dozen cases where bystanders, passersby and children are injured or killed. Enough. Stop releasing violent felons back onto Charlotte's streets with minimal bail.

  1. Sounds like a shitty case that’ll end up being dismissed by our shitty DA’s office. Mr Chambers will be released and then hopefully be killed before he kills anyone else.

    1. Thats Microsoft AI. If you are too illiterate to compose a written report without AI doing it for you - you'll be too dumb in court to defend a story you didn't write yourself.
