According to local news reports materials with anti-Semitic language and Nazi imagery were found at Shalom Park on Tuesday morning, in Charlotte.
The materials were removed by mid-morning on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
“Let us be clear: this imagery is not political speech, protest, or provocation. It is hate. It is intimidation. And it is intended to unsettle, threaten, and dehumanize members of our community,” the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte said.
Shalom Park located on Providence Road is part of a campus with multiple Jewish cultural organizations, like Temple Israel, Charlotte Jewish Day School, and the Levine Jewish Community Center, among others.
The reports created a push back claiming this incident was a "false flag" and never happened.
And then in a related pair of incidents. A group of white supremists stole a "pride flag" from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located on 1900 the Plaza in Charlotte, NC and a cemetery in Huntersville was also attacked.
Bret M. Haynes, passed away on March 28, 2025, at the age of 43, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He is buried at the Northlake Memorial Gardens cemetery in Huntersville. He just happened to be Jewish. The former Army veteran was deployed to the Middle East during the aftermath of 911 and his gave was marked with both symbols and flags.
In September of last year the grave of Mr. Haynes was vandalized. CMPD detectives have connected the following individuals to these crimes:

On October 6, 2025, (Detective J. Higa #5099) was on duty and working at CMPD's Criminal Intel Unit was informed that CMPD Officers arrested three individuals who were armed during peaceful protest (reference CMPD report number 20251004183600). The individuals were Ethan Bruce Purcell (PURCELL) DOB 4/16/2007, David Pagava, (PAGAVA) DOB 3/23/2006 and juvenile J.D. Law enforcement identified the listed individuals to be supporters of the Vinlanders Social Club/Firm 22 and members of the Southern Sons, all known white supremacy groups.
On October 7, 2025, obtained search warrant on all three mentioned subjects' phones which were seized during their arrest.
On October 25, 2025, executed the search warrant on the mobile phones of the subjects. Based on evidence and the investigation the following additional gang members were identified: Martin Blaine Harvey (HARVEY) DOB 3/25/2003, David William Fair (FAIR) DOB 11/26/2004, Joseph Keaton Webb (WEBB) DOB 12/6/2003, Alexander Robert Hare (HARE) DOB 10/24/2004, Tristan Alexander Somerson (SOMERSON) DOB DOB
6/12/2006 and Ryan Anthony Gower (GOWER) DOB 8/5/2004.
Additionally, the following evidence was discovered:
On September 13, 2025, David PAGAVA (PAGAVA) AKA Dato, member leader of the white supremacy/Nazi group Firm22/Southern Sons, also supporter of Vinlanders white supremacy club, planned meet with other members of Firm 22/Southern Sons in Charlotte, NC.
PAGAVA and the other subjects went to the Northlake Memorial Gardens cemetery in Huntersville, NC. PAGAVA is videotaped wearing black jacket, black pants, black boots with white laces, and black bandanna covering his face. (Huntersville PD report number 20260109153901).
On 9/13/2026, video depicts PAGAVA putting on mask in front of gravesite with HARVEY in the background with cell phone with the light on facing PAGAVA, he appeared to be filming him. PAGAVA can be heard saying "I'm gonna kick this shit down". The camera then zooms into the grave and shows the name Bret M. Haynes, the star of David, and the U.S. Army logo.
PAGAVA squats beside the grave and points down at the grave and says "Jew right here. Now, I'm not fan of Jews, so..." while standing up looking down at the grave. PAGAVA kicks the flags and other items that were left at the grave. PAGAVA then yells "White fucking Power!" while doing Sieg heil (Nazi) salute. The other members are also heard yelling along with PAGAVA.
Based on the name of the deceased, law enforcement located an online obituary for Bret M. Haynes (HAYNES), who is buried at the Northlake Memorial Gardens cemetery in Huntersville, NC. On December 3, 2025, law enforcement officers interviewed HAYNE's next of kin, Sarah Hellyer (HELLYER). HELLYER confirmed HAYNES' gravesite and confirmed that consent was not given to any individuals to desecrate HAYNES' gravesite.
(Reference Huntersville PD report number 20260109153901). HELLYER also stated that HAYNES' mother contacted her few days after the incident and asked her if she had visited the grave or knew who or what caused the desecration of it.
After desecrating the gravesite, PAGAVA, PURCELL, WEBB and juvenile J.D. traveled in WEBB's pick up truck which WEBB was driving, with PURCELL and juvenile J.D. in the truck's tailgate video depicted PURCELL and juvenile J.D. wearing face masks in the tailgate of pickup truck while the truck is moving. PURCELL is shown to be wearing black boots with white laces that signify "White Power" within white supremacist gangs.
Juvenile J.D. and PURCELL display the Vinlander/FIRM 22 hand sign. PAGAVA is heard saying "22 Baby" and "When you get out, don't' hurt yourself on the drop okay?", someone is heard saying "Ah shit', PAGAVA is then heard saying "Don't worry, we'll loop back". The camera view stays at what appears to be PAGAVA's legs with black boots on with white laces.
Another video on 9/13/2025 at 10:26 PM, PAGAVA is heard saying "Right side, don't hurt yourself getting out. When you hop out bend your knees so you uh take the brace of the impact okay. Don't fuck up, don't get cold feet don't (unintelligible), okay? Tear that shit down, okay? The point is desecration. Stealing it is maybe sign of it. Alright get ready. Go go go!" Purcell and juvenile J.D. then run back from what appeared to be Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with pride flag in juvenile J.D.'s hand, jump back into the tailgate of the truck and the truck continued moving on. multi-colored flag can be seen in the tailgate of the truck with PURCELL and juvenile J.D.
On September 22, 2025. Linda Davis (DAVIS), employee at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church reported that the pride flag that was fixed to the exterior of the church was stolen sometime between September 13 and September 14, 2025. (Reference CMPD report number 20250922102800).
Based on the depiction of the church in the video found on PAGAVA's cell phone data, the structure appeared to be the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located on 1900 the Plaza in Charlotte, NC.
On November 24, 2025 interviewed DAVIS, and she stated that the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church did not give consent to any individuals to remove and take the flag from the church's premises. DAVIS also provided an invoice that showed the cost of the flag was $69.50
After stealing the pride flag, PAGAVA went to the backyard of HARE parents' house in Charlotte, NC. Another video depicts PURCELL and SOMERSON holding the flag on top of fire then willfully causing it to burn after HARVEY finished hate speech towards the LGBTQ and Jewish communities. PAGAVA is also depicted holding piece of paper around the same fire, he reads it, then says "Get this shit outta my face" then crumbles the paper up and throws it in the fire pit.
Based on the above facts and circumstances there is probable cause to believe that David Pagava, DOB
3/23/2006 committed the above listed offenses. Detective J. Higa #5099 therefore requests the issuance of an arrest warrant for the listed charges.
