Black Child Found Hanging From a Poplar Tree

She was just 16, CMPD says she committed suicide. Beautiful girl heartbreaking news.

Local media won't touch the story, CMPD is on Mute. Only the way out there "Black News" and others are posting about it so why the hush voices?

Juliana Nzita, a 16-year-old African American girl from Charlotte, North Carolina, was found dead on church property after being reported missing in late April. Local police have already classified her death as suicide.

Authorities said Nzita was reported missing on April 28, 2026, according to The North Carolina Beat. Her family searched for her while community posts and tips spread across social media. She had been living in North Carolina after originally moving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On May 8, 2026, community volunteer Kenneth Tolbert, known as “Mufasa,” said he came across what appeared to be the body of a teenage girl hanging from a tree near West Sugar Creek Road on property linked to The United House of Prayer for All People.

Tolbert said he quickly alerted nearby church members and then contacted police. He later left the scene due to a prior commitment. He also provided video footage showing a small blue chair under a tree and a rope above, with the girl’s feet still close to the ground. A church member reportedly said the area had been checked the day before and saw nothing unusual.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department records confirmed Nzita was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m. on May 8, 2026, in the 4200 block of West Sugar Creek Road. The report documented the location and initial findings.

Police classified the death as suicide in their official notes. Investigators also said they did not receive a response from Nzita’s family when contacted. The church did not release any public statement.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) report noted she was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m. on May 8 in the 4200 block of West Sugar Creek Road. No signs of foul play were publicly reported at the time, and investigators cited evidence consistent with suicide including a tipped over chair. No mention of suicide note or social media posts.

Case Overview
  • Disappearance: Juliana went missing from her home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Her family and community volunteers searched for her for ten days.
  • Discovery: On Friday, May 8, 2026, a community volunteer and his service dog discovered her body in a wooded area on the property of The United House of Prayer for All People church, located on West Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte.
  • Official Ruling: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department investigated the scene and officially ruled her death a suicide.
  • Community Context: Reports shared by advocates and local independent news outlets, such as The North Carolina Beat, noted that Juliana had allegedly been dealing with severe bullying at school before her disappearance.
Public Reaction
Her sudden loss has led to a profound void for her loved ones, who remember her as a gentle and caring soul. Because of the sensitive nature of her discovery, her passing has also ignited widespread public concern on social media. While community members and advocates continue to discuss the case online and demand transparency, local figures emphasize supporting her family with compassion and avoiding the spread of unverified claims.

Cedar's Take:

I can't imagine anyone killing themselves at 16. Black or White and really have a hard time with the hung herself from a tree. I honestly I don't know is Black suicide a thing?

  1. Ain’t no way.

That girl was used for prostitution and murdered afterwards. She was gone for a month.

  2. While local media professes community concern and education they scatter like rats when a suicide occurs. What better story to show the dangers youth are explosed to, or possible trafficking… instead we get silence.

  5. This has all the hallmarks of a lynching, including the intimidation of a historically Black church. I hope CMPD asks for FBI help on this.

    2. It has zero hallmarks of a lynching. Grow up. You are doing the black community a disservice by redirecting actual mental health issues to a racism issue.

  8. Is there a position more worthless than a lieutenant at Cmpd? We need to cut at least 50% if not all of them. They don’t do anything. Please discuss.

    2. If you’re a lieutenant commenting on meckburbia, that kinda proves the point of the original comment no?

    3. What’s wrong with commenting? It’s better than covering up the truth.

    4. Sounds like lieutenants don’t do enough to justify lieutenant pay if they have time to comment on meckburbia… original commenter makes a good point.

    7. Some MAD lieutenants on here lmao. More reason to nix the position! Far too emotional to be making decisions!

    8. Is that a lieutenant telling someone to answer a call? lol lieutenants wouldn’t know the first thing about any of the paperwork required on a call.

  9. I responded to a hanging on Rozzelles Ferry Road during the late 90s. The black man was hanging with his arms tied behind his back. We wrote it up as a suicide and closed the file.

This dark tale reminds me of that event with similar outcomes 30 years later.

    1. That's not this case doofus. 30 years ago and you have one commonality with this case and immediately you're making all sorts of connections. Thank God you're retired - you'd be a liability in court.

  10. I hope you're full of crap. Otherwise you should contact Cold Case unit and open that homicide case back up

    1. He is full of shit. According to him, he investigated an accident 30 years ago that ended up being a DUO - therefore all accidents today are DUIs.

  11. Lieutenant is another mess left by Rodney so he could promote more unqualified African Americans into command positions. The position was not needed, is not needed and Command has yet to come up with anything for them to do. Abolish the process and position, restructure the raises for the Sgt rank and get the Captains out mangement meetings and going some small amount of police work.
