CMPD OIS Coyote Joe's

From CMPD:

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officer-involved shooting in the 4600 block of Wilkinson Boulevard.

On Saturday, December 28, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a situation involving a male subject with a firearm outside of Coyote Joe’s in the 4600 block of Wilkinson Boulevard. An officer perceived an imminent deadly threat and discharged his firearm, striking the subject.

The male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm possessed by the subject was located at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation. A parallel Internal Affairs investigation is also being conducted.

Per standard protocol, the officer who discharged their weapon will be placed on paid administrative leave.

Detectives with CMPD’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene along with Crime Scene Search. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Internal Affairs, CMPD’s Executive Staff, the Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation also responded.

Cedar's Take:

This is a tough one. Christmas week, everyone in a holiday mood, at a place Mrs. Cedar financed after convincing her bank president the late Jim Burt to take a chance on a country bar in the heart of the hood of all places. She convinced Jim and his wife to sign up for a line dancing class and the rest is history.

Prayers for all involved. There are no winners in these things. More as facts become known and the story develops.

  1. This time of year shit gets crazy. I almost stabbed a guy in the parking lot a few years ago. Caucasian people have guns too so don’t cover up the race of the criminal. CJs is like Northlake Mall. I ain’t going there no more never.

  2. Sounds like a good shoot. Crazy guy with a gun waving it around never ends well. Better the nut case than an officer.

  3. The guy had a gun to his head threatening to kill himself. I'm sure this will end up as a good shoot. However, probably a lesson to be learned by the off-duty that called it in. I'll leave it at that.

    1. Did off duty duck the crazy guy until the Freedom CRU arrived?

    2. Freedom cru probably were the ones hiding. They don’t know what they’re doing

    3. Surprised the Airport Division didn’t respond? LOLOL no I’m not.

    4. Off duty actually stayed with the guy

    5. Airport would have ended it a lot sooner without having to call for backup!

  4. Off duty was smart told everyone to stay inside locked the doors and wait for someone else to sort it out. Sometimes the lights and siren will cause the gunman to think it over not in this case. Hard to understand what gets into people and that alone will get a cop killed.

    1. I agree with this assessment. However, I also think off duty should allow the working units to determine their response vs telling everyone who should and shouldn't respond. While running e-traffic is not the best response, telling dispatch not to send "everyone" ended up being a bad decision.

  5. Still waiting for the CMPD PIO to insult cedar nation for our comments about this shooting event, Josh’s death, and the sex scandals around here.

Remember that the shooter from NYE got probation so stay clear of Charlotte public gatherings.

  6. I think the off duty jobs out there will be hard to fill now. That place has become the new epicenter to many people.

    1. Beth is your supreme leader. Fear her wrath if your 3 min late for court whose courtroom doing open until an hour late and docket calls aren’t finished for 2 hours into the session

    2. Leave Beth alone. She always smiles at me and looks the other way.

    3. Sign in, walk out the door, go get something to eat, go back, sign out, and repeat next month (that is if you do anything to actually have to go to court for).
