The old racist joke about Leroy who was always getting arrested.
Judge: Now Leroy I sees here where you were arrested again this past Saturday night.
Leroy you seem like a nice man, you have a nice job, nice family, I know your wife but for the Love of God I have no idea why you are always getting arrested on Saturday nights.
Leroy: Your honor that's because you have no idea what it is like to be a black man on a Saturday night.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, (CMPD) Officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar located at 2100 Beatties Ford Rd. in reference to an armed robbery call for service.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the victim/clerk, Valeria Roseboro. Valeria stated that while she was working, she noticed black male subject that had previously been in the store and was known for stealing. Valeria stated that subject entered the store and walked directly to where the beer is kept.
Valeria stated that she confronted the subject while he was trying to walk out of the store with two sixteen packs of Modelo and one twelve pack of Milwaukee's best beer with total value of $40. Valeria stated that the subject had silver pocketknife in his hand and stated that he would stab her.
Valeria stated that the subject then walked out of the store. Valeria stated the subject walked up Beatties Ford Rd towards Catherine Simmons Ave. Valeria stated that the subject was wearing all black clothing with black hoodie.
Valeria showed Officers video from previous encounter with the subject. Detectives with the Real Time Crime Center advised over the radio that they observed subject matching the description given by Valeria, walk down Catherine Simmons Ave.
While circulating the area of Catherine Simmons Ave, Officers observed the defendant, later identified as Brandon Hampton via DMV search, walk from behind Nikkis Food Shop and then sit in chair in front of 2129 Catherine Simmons Ave. The defendant was wearing dark navy shirt with black pants. Officers made contact with the defendant, who was the same subject Valeria had shown Officers in the video and identified him as the same suspect in this incident.
The defendant was then placed under arrest. Officers located the stolen merchandise along with black hoodie in the rear of Nikkis Food Shop located at 2200 Beatties Ford Rd which is across the street from where the defendant was located. While in the back of the patrol vehicle, the defendant made spontaneous utterance of, stole that beer, but didn't have no knife.
I am seeking the charge of Robbery with Dangerous Weapon against the Defendant.
Here's where it gets really stupid. Hampton has a 2 decades long list of arrests and convictions. 9 convictions and countless arrests. He's a habitual felon. He's spent 7 years of the last 23 in prison.
Paroled from the Maury Correctional Institution on July 4, 2024 after spending nearly five years in prison he was granted an unconditional release on July 4, 2025.
3 weeks later he was arrested on July 20 for common law robbery given a $5,000.00 bail and released on July 22 via Pretrial Release cashless bail.
The he was arrested on September 27, (the above arrest) and released on a $25,000 unsecured bail on November 19th, provided he comply with certain rules and electronic monitoring.
On December 10, 2025 an order for his arrest was issued for non-compliance with the electronic monitoring, one could assume he cut it off or whatever and now his bond is set at $50,000 secured.
The trouble is Hampton doesn't understand the system and now the system has changed. Had he just stole the beer not only would he not gone to jail they'd probably let him drink the beer. But the weapon and Iryna's law changes everything.
On December 10, 2025 Judge Keith Smith again doubled Hampton's bond it is now at $100,000.00 Secured.
