From CMPD:
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 6, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting an Officer-Involved Shooting investigation in the 600 block of North Church Street in the Central Division.
On Sunday, July 6, shortly before 6:15 a.m., an off-duty CMPD officer responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of North Church Street. Upon arrival, a physical altercation occurred between the officer and the suspect. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged and the officer was shot in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after.
The officer was quickly treated on scene by responding officers before he was transported to an area hospital to undergo surgery. He is currently in serious but stable condition.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, Victim Services, MEDIC and CFD also responded to assist.
DEMETRUIS TAQUAN BRISTOW was been charged with attempted first degree murder in the shooting of a CMPD Officer.
The Gastonia resident is charged as follows:
ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER
ASSAULT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER RESULTIING IN SERIOUS INJURY
ASSAULT LEO/PO W/FIREARM
AWDW INTENT TO KILL
MALICIOUS CONDUCT BY PRISONER/THROW
ASSAULT ON FEMALE
RESISTING PUBLIC OFFICER
ASSAULT GOVT OFFICIAL/EMPLY
Additionally Bristow was arrested on 3 outstanding warrants.
Yet what happens to him in Mecklenburg County will be nothing like Johnston, Wake and Cabarrus Counties were his failure to appear on drug, weapons and traffic charges have cost bail bondmen thousands.
Given Mecklenburg DA's in ability to remove violent felons from society he'll only have a short stay before he's released. Maybe this time the impoten DA and spineless Judges will see things differently?
Finally, Cedar Posts will not release the the name of the Officer until he has been released from the hospital or his name is made public by the CMPD PIO, but offer prayers for a full recovery.
Update:
According to sources the incident began with Briston attacking Aniyah Simone Porter by "grabbing her face", Then when the Officer arrived the altercation escalated. Bristow who only stands 5'4'' weighing just 125 pounds managed to either cause the Officer's weapon to discharge or somehow took the Officer's weapon and managed to take a shot striking the Officer in the leg.
CMPD Officers in the area were able to quickly spot the suspect and take him into custody.
UPDATE:
This was really close, here's the official court document edited with the Officer's name redacted.

Please bring your radio with you if you want to play cop off-duty. Using a cellphone for 33 is sad.
ReplyDeleteCentral dispatcher was asleep at the wheel and Providence dispatcher gave zero useful information: "related to an ADW" ...no fkn shit
DeleteI’ve always said it. Anyone on the sidewalk after dark in uptown is a criminal. Uptown isn’t the same anymore. The bars and clubs are empty, and working people go to Southend.
ReplyDeleteAnyone on the sidewalk after dark is a criminal and really dangerous. Glad they caught the suspect and not another funeral. Curious to see how JJ plays this incident.
JJ? Who? He’s checked out trying to figure out how to spend all his $$$! He can care less about what’s going on. Why do you think all these newbies are doing pressers. Hey, where is the PIO? I want transparency!
DeleteIt was 6am
DeleteDon’t take life for granted.
ReplyDeleteSuper shady press conference by Balamucki…. Did the perp have a gun or did he take the officers gun? Did the officer try to shoot the suspect and shoot himself? I feel bad for this officer, IA and HR are going to FUCK him. Workers comp probably won’t cover him. At least he’s alive.
ReplyDeleteWhat????? There was a battle and the officers gun was shot? The suspect didn’t have a gun?
ReplyDeleteNever Ever lose control of your weapon!
ReplyDeleteOh god I knew it was something bad
DeleteWell on the bright side guys, the 4th annual Chick Fil A in-service training is coming up so surely it will prevent future incidents like this from happening!!
ReplyDeleteDid the cop get robbed with his own gun? Wouldn’t be the first time Adam…🙄🙄🙄
DeleteKids..let this be a lesson.
ReplyDeleteYou can get killed as a cop. You can get shot by your own gun. The city will not help or protect you. The city will protect the citizen that shot you. Those other cops didn’t kill the gunman or shoot back.
I bet IA will try to hit the officer with some policy violations as soon as he is out of the hospital. THEN there will be some dumb video training for all if us. On top of that, they’ll keep pounding into officers that they need to take the Triple P class and learn to deescalate situations like this with hugs and kisses before trying to teach tactics. Clowns at the academy equals clowns being produced.
Delete100
DeleteSuspect without a gun but our guy gets shot in the leg. Accidental discharge? Was he actually responding to a call or just happened to be there?
ReplyDeleteI want to see evidence here. I smell a frame up
DeleteIdiots
DeleteHe will be at the airport soon enough
ReplyDeleteWas the criminal a purple guy?
ReplyDeleteAlways purple
DeleteMedia didn’t say
DeleteGod dang can we do anything right around here? Beating kids, shooting legs, stealing money. What’s next..a dead guy at the academy?
ReplyDeleteWait till the real facts come out. Don't 20/20 hindsight it. Golden Rule.
ReplyDeleteI am going full racist on this one I dare you to call me out. This mofo looks like a freaking chimp, look at those lips and he's only 5 feet tall? Someone needs to turn in their badge for not property eliminating this trash.
ReplyDeleteI would hate to be the PIO right now
ReplyDeleteIf the cops didn’t have guns then the cop would not have been shot.
ReplyDeleteICE is hiring and so is CBP looks like way more fun than CMPD.
ReplyDeleteYes! That poor cop will get set up by his supervisors, of whom none have done anything credible in their careers. They send out trash on the streets, then act dumb when something bad happens.
DeleteGlad to see Uncle Fester, opps Balamucki got promoted again. I guess now he is able to bring home some money instead of his whole paycheck going to child support for so many kids by different moms

ReplyDeleteGlad no one else was hurt during the shooting. It could have been been much worse. 🙏🙏🙇🏿
ReplyDeleteLuckily the officer didn’t die. They would have made this look like Jeff and Sean’s death. They would use it as motivation to the current officers.
ReplyDeleteIn tomorrow’s CMPD this officer would be safe at home. More de-escalation training and no weapon makes this a simple dv issue.
ReplyDeleteSad that Charlotte has not invested enough in violence interruption to save the blue
I'll give a you de-escalation training shoot the damn monkey and the problem has been de-escalated.
DeleteWe need to stop killing games in the video game industry. Life isn’t a gta episode. Our LE would be well suited to learn this as well
Delete1022 you’re a dumbass
DeleteSo off duty goes home and on the way to his apartment does what he think is the right thing and tries to "de escalate" the situation with the feral ape and nearly dies. Should have smoked his ass. Lesson learned.
ReplyDeleteSad lesson, he was just doing his job and gets hurt. So many cowardly cops would just keep moving.
DeleteI have an important question. Is uptown safe again?
ReplyDeleteSo you hear any gun shots and sirens?
DeleteMaybe be in uniform with your equipment if you’re going to play hero. This isn’t Blue Bloods
ReplyDeleteSo can anyone say for certain if it was the cop's weapon?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound like it.
DeleteSierra wouldn’t have lost control of her weapon. What kinda weakling got worked by this crackhead?
ReplyDeleteWe need to bring standards back
Tru dat
DeleteDon’t pull a gun unless you will use it. That’s a painful lesson that he will learn in life.
ReplyDeleteIf DA doesn’t give a long prison sentence, then why does anyone still work here?
ReplyDeleteI smell a rat, like always with CMPD
ReplyDeleteSome rando gets involved with a dv issue, pulls a piece, shoots himself (or herself) like Barney Fife. Then tries to plant weapon on the dv party. How come the socks ended up on the framed victim if he wasn’t hit? That’s like 5-0 planting gloves behind oj’s house.
I hope the da asks deep questions on this
Bro you dumb?
DeleteIt looks bad when the PIO has nothing to say about the shooting. There must be a camera in that area.
Come on home boy put down the crack pipe.
DeletePIO is non-existent. Nobody has a clue what’s going on in that office. Guess JJ hasn’t come back into town yet from is July 4th vacay.
DeleteIf the cop knew martial arts and had strength/cardio then he wouldn’t need that gun. Remember to everyone to stay in shape and train hard.
ReplyDeleteShut the fuck up
Delete6-7k I hunt the evil you pretend doesn’t exist dumbass boot
DeleteKeep on hunting on concourse E boomer. You can’t be fired even though you shoulda been years ago. Your mike time is measured with a calendar. You haven’t seen the range since Obama admin. Either LEC or airport. I don’t need to be afraid of my 6k

ReplyDeletePrayers continue for the injured Officer and his family.
DeleteThe longer we wait for facts the less true they become.
ReplyDeleteWhy is CMPD holding off on releasing names of injured officers…what’s up with that..or just another great idea in managing the flow of disinformation
DeleteNot releasing the name of someone isnt disinformation
DeleteIt means they don’t know what happened yet. They need to interview the officer.
DeleteProof that DV situations are volitile and dangerous for officers.
DeleteProof that guns are your enemy and when you insert yourself into someone’s business with one, it could be used against you. Better train up before you step up.
DeleteThe CMPD Officer has been upgraded to Stable Condition. Prayers Continue for a full recovery.
ReplyDeleteDid the officer have a badge or uniform to identify himself as an officer? Someone rolls up on you with a gun..you just gonna listen or fight back?
DeleteMany questions to answer here.
If it was an ambassador then there wouldn’t be a gun.
