Charlotte's Homicide Count

Homicides are the most visible sign of crime in any city.

But Charlotte and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department want you to believe that crime particularly violent crime is down.

If CMPD is to be believed Charlotte has tagged and bagged just 13 Homicide Victims in the first 7 weeks of 2026. That's 1.857 per week putting Charlotte on track for a year end total of 97. That number would exceed the reported number for 2025 but still come in less than 2024.

The truth is crime is not down and by and large Charlotte is not a safe city.

How many homicides have not been reported?

It took the department 11 days to report the murder of Michael Alexander. The shooting was reported but CMPD didn't acknowledge that the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital on arrival until an arrest was made nearly 2 weeks later.

When CMPD did announce the murder of Mr. Alexander they did so as a "Case Update" with the arrest of a suspect even though they never posted the original shooting death.

CMPD's own "Crime Mapper" on line portal doesn't show the David Cox Road Homicide of Mr. Alexander.

What this small "slight of hand" did was give the new Police Chief the ability to stand in front of a group of Ballantyne business owners and executives on Thursday morning and tell those in attendance that crime was down in Charlotte. They of course politely applauded.

Back to the "Crime Mapper" while it doesn't show the David Cox Road homicide it does show that a January 4, 2026 Shamrock Drive "Fatal Vehicle Crash" was actually a Homicide.

From CMPD CrimeMapper

You have to ignore the dates because they are always posted as the day before. I've asked why and have never received a coherent response.

"Due to the complex nature of our graphical data base and multiple access portals the dates must be attributed to an non compulsory time frame".

As of yet CMPD's PIO has not given an update on the Shamrock Drive fatality or stated that is was determined to be a homicide and has failed to update the original post as such.

CrimeMapper doesn't list the shooting death and fire at 2000 Oakdale Road that occurred on January 10, 2026. 48 year old Kebba Eileen-Lucia Woody was found inside a house that was on fire. CMPD reported this as a death investigation but local media reported that she suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Normally CMPD silence on a "death investigation" signals a suicide but suicide victims don't shoot themselves multiple times.

Which would mean YTD there have been 14 homicides. Or an average of 2 per week and a projected 104 by year end 2026.

"Shoddy Police Work" isn't just about failing to report homicides or filling out arrest affidavits that misidentify the subject as a Black Male weighing 200 pounds when the arrestee is actually a blonde haired White Female Weighting 100 Pounds. (Below)

It's about lost evidence, and overlooked crimes. It's Officers hard work and cases dismissed because someone forget to document the file.

So what's going on here. Dishonesty or Incompetency? Both?

  1. This can't be for real why would CMPD hide homicides? Cedar you much have had too much coffee.

  2. I said I would improve the perception of crime, not the actual crime. Why do you think I’m bringing Rodney onboard to support our campaign on lowering crime?

  3. CMPD covered up child abuse, so you think they would cover up other crimes, too? OHSA is monitoring their attendance badge swipes for employee safety concerns.

    1. It’s not about the numbers, geek. It’s about the quality of the people. That’s why we gots women waggin their gun at an entire team of CRU. It’s just insanity out here.

  4. Cedar, you don’t want to report of repeat CLT dirtbag shooting at officers during a pursuit after doing an armed carjacking?

    1. Nope. Boring as fuck!

    2. I'm still wondering how this keeps slipping through the cracks. Dude gets out for killing a woman only a few years ago, carjacks a woman leading to a chase where he shoots at pursuing ofcrs and its radio silence.

  5. 1550 I'm certain he covered that the day it happened on "X" but wouldn't hurt to highlight that here as well.

  6. I can explain the paperwork issue, I just told Nivens to copy and paste. She just doing as I told her. She’s gonna make a great manager in this department and she’ll listen to what she’s told. Now…where’s my bag of cash?

    1. She’ll live in fear the rest of her life like the rest of female supervisors that get in the deep water around here. This is embarrassing for her 100%

  7. Smoke and mirrors. City leaders are pissing on your legs, telling you it’s raining, and y’all are grabbing your umbrellas.

  8. The only thing that keeps command in line is fear that someone like CP will keep outing this bullshit. They really think that if they can make one or two murders a month come off the books they will look better. The Alexander case was not going to be made public. He was not a big deal not a rapper or banger just a hard working 45 year old a nobody. But someone alerted VCAT and they got him so they had to spike the football and declare a win. These people are sick.

  9. Money and corruption run “Tidy Town” — but don’t worry, it’s all very polished. The real magic trick isn’t the skyline; it’s how Center City Partners, the Chamber, and City Council can make public interest disappear right before your eyes.
The best way to experience the CLT is from about 20 miles out. Close one eye, hold your thumb up, and watch it vanish.

  10. As I sip my Sunday morning tea, I draw concerns around the recent public outcry for honest information from Charlotte government. CMPD and local news outlets show stories, where 100s of comments are critical of DEI and 🤡 tactics by these information avenues.

    It’s very concerning and disheartening.

    1. Chief Patterson said her strategy is based off collected data and success ratios. That means the inputs have to be low or it looks like it’s not succeeding. It’s like failing schools that lie about their grades and safety incidents to receive government funding thresholds. People die out here and it doesn’t get reported as crime.

  13. So why would CMPD want to cover up murders? Why wouldn't they issue a press release immediately? Even if they didn't ID the victim or name any suspects. Do they really think they can hide the bodies? Why is Cedar posting this and why does he/she have a grudge against CMPD? Why doesn't at least the local news cover this? Help me understand.

    1. Hey amigo, we are under pressure to perform under our new chief. If the public doesn’t ask then we don’t have to report the findings. We are documenting the bodies and MO, but the investigations are taking longer than anticipated. Gov. Stein put an attorney in charge of his Charlotte office that sued us for slow homicide investigations. Thus, we need to be careful about what information is released to the public.

    1. We need places for youth that are supervised and allow for them to grow as people. Late night centers open year round. Music, dancing. Competition. Sports. Where safe protection can be taught and given out. A place they can meet and mingle without being threatened and without ICE coming to deport. I remember meeting taking my first borns mom to Eastland. Those places are rare today. I hope Camp North End capitalizes on their opportunity and becomes the regional place for our youth to go every night.

    3. Josh’s death and the other agents could have been prevented if they had parked down the road, or sat on the house for the offenders apprehension outside.

We need to do a better job staying safe and aware of threats during every situation. Never forget.
