Out On Bail Charged With Murder Suspect Kills Again

You need to ask yourself why hasn't this case taken a larger role in the Whatley vs Cooper Match Up? Why hasn't the local news or even social media told this story before?

Forty-six-year-old Ricardo Perez was shot and killed during an armed robbery in Charlotte North Carolina on November 30, 2020. He was transported to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center (Atrium Main), where he passed away later that night.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) then identified and arrested four teenagers in connection with the homicide:

• Azaevon Singleton (18)

Apprehended following a vehicle pursuit by CMPD officers on December 2, 2020. 

• Sedrick Sanders (18)

 Arrested on Palm Breeze Lane off Brookshire Boulevard.

• Keon McMillan (18)

Arrested alongside Sanders on Palm Breeze Lane.

• Marques Fleming (19)  

Two days later he was arrested for his involvement.

Each suspect was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Singleton later accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to at least 16 years in prison on a Second Degree Murder charge and other offenses.

Sanders was released on bond. Then arrested again after committing another armed robbery and was  released yet again. Finally he was arrested while out on bond for another weapons violation and he now remains in custody of the MCSO. 

McMillan was convicted in 2023 of Second Degree Murder and was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison. 

Fleming was like Sanders released on bond. Then he was arrested again in October of 2023 on unrelated charges and released again despite the pending murder charge. 

Then on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at approximately 9:30 a.m., CMPD officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 900 block of Wabash Avenue. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC transported both victims to local hospitals.

One victim in this case was identified as Marle Naomi Fleming, 27. On Tuesday, June 30, Ms. Fleming succumbed to her injuries sustained during the shooting.

CMPD Detectives identified Marques Fleming, now 25, as the suspect in connection to this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force and the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) developed information Fleming had fled North Carolina to Georgia. On Tuesday, June 30, the FBI Atlanta SWAT arrested Fleming in Loganville, Georgia.

Fleming is currently being held without bond at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.

Just one more example of Roy Cooper's soft on crime no cash bail policy fail. 

Cases like this victim Marle Naomi Fleming don't have the impact of Logan Federico or Iryna Zarutska but their lives mattered just the same.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives quickly obtained warrants for Fleming’s arrest following the shooting. Authorities allege that Fleming fled North Carolina after the attack.

According to reports, Fleming was already facing a separate first-degree murder charge stemming from a 2020 case and had been released on a $250,000 bond. He was reportedly required to remain under 24-hour electronic house arrest at the time of the shooting.

On June 30, FBI Atlanta SWAT agents and local law enforcement officers located Fleming in Loganville, Georgia. He was taken into custody without incident and is being held pending extradition back to Mecklenburg County.

While an arrest has been made, investigators have indicated the case remains active. Family members and witnesses have suggested that multiple shooters may have been involved and have described the attack as appearing coordinated. Authorities have not publicly released a motive and have not announced whether additional arrests are expected.

For Marle’s family, the loss is devastating.

Her mother has spoken publicly about the heartbreak of knowing so many people were inside the home when the shooting began.

“Everybody walked out but her,” Cunningham said. “There’s 12 people in that house and nobody helped my baby.”

Now, loved ones are focused on remembering Marle for the life she lived rather than the violence that took it away. They describe her as a beloved daughter, family member, and friend whose death has left an irreplaceable void.

As investigators continue searching for answers, Marle’s family continues to seek justice while mourning a young woman whose life ended far too soon.

She was 27 years old.

Twelve people were inside that house.

Eleven survived.

A Charlotte family is grieving an unimaginable loss after 27-year-old Marle Naomi Fleming died from injuries she suffered during a shooting that tore through a home filled with relatives, including young children.

According to investigators, gunfire erupted around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at a residence in the 900 block of Wabash Avenue near Hovis Road in northwest Charlotte. Authorities say approximately 12 people were inside the home when dozens of bullets struck the residence.

Among those inside were three children under the age of 10.

Outside the home, Marle’s mother, Karima Cunningham, was trying to get inside when the shooting began.

As shots rang out, Cunningham said she was forced to run for cover before attempting to return to the residence.

“I wasn’t able to help her; gun shots started going off, I ran,” Cunningham told local media. “I ran back to the door, I started beating on the door again, another shot came.”

Inside the home, panic and confusion unfolded as family members and others scrambled to escape the gunfire. Family members say Marle was shot while trying to run toward the front door. Another person inside the residence was also struck by gunfire but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Marle was rushed to Atrium Health Main Hospital in critical condition. Loved ones remained at her bedside, hoping she would recover. Despite those efforts, she died from her injuries on June 30, 2026. Her death was officially ruled a homicide.

The tragedy became even more shocking when investigators identified Marle’s own brother, 25-year-old Marques Fleming, as the suspected gunman.
