Courtney Marie Mullis was just 26, when she was shot in the face multiple times early yesterday morning while in her car on Statesville Road in Charlotte.
Details of the shooting and the relationship between the Miss Mullis and her killer is unknown.
CMPD Arrest Affidavit
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 0518 hours, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers were dispatched to 6916 Statesville Road in reference to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service.
The 911 caller stated that she was just shot. First responders arrived and transported the victim who was identified as Courtney Marie Mullis (W/F, 11/16/1999) to the hospital.
While in route to the hospital, Mullis was pronounced deceased by Tiffany Davidson #0213 with Medic at 0538 hours. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene responded to the scene and the hospital.
Detectives conducted a voluntary recorded interview with a witness who identified themselves to law enforcement. This witness stated that they were driving on Statesville Road and saw a female lying on the ground near a vehicle and a black male pulling items from the trunk of the that vehicle.
The witness described the male as wearing a gray hooded jacket with denim on it and gray sweatpants. Officers reviewed camera footage near the scene and observed the defendant walking in the direction away from the scene towards Sunset Road.
Officers located the defendant walking along Statesville Road near Keith Drive and spoke with the defendant. During the course of the investigation, the defendant provided Officers with the name of "John Frank" with a date of birth of 03/17/2002.
The defendant was positively identified as Jamere Robert Edwards (B/M, 03/05/2001).
When the defendant provided Officers with the fictitious name, he delayed the investigation.
The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the Law Enforcement Center. A search incident to arrest of the defendant yielded a live cartridge casing in the defendant's pocket. The live ammunition was .40 caliber, and the head stamp was S&W CBC. Detectives processed the scene at 6932 Statesville Road and located multiple discharged cartridge casings (DCCs) that were .40 caliber and had the head stamp of S&W CBC.
A black Glock 23 S/N: BXZZ984 was recovered in the woods near the scene, and this firearm was also loaded with a live S&W .40 caliber round. Detectives searched the victim's vehicle and found paper with the defendant's name on it.
Detectives processed the victim at the hospital, and she had sustained multiple suspects gunshot wounds to the face and lower portions of her body. On 06/26/2024, the defendant was cited for carrying a concealed gun.
Detectives reviewed the ATF trace form associated with the gun that was seized by the defendant and learned that this firearm is a Glock 23 .40 caliber with the S/N: BXZZ984. Detectives researched the defendant and learned that he had multiple prior civil cases from this year where both he and the victim were named.
Based on the following facts, | (Detective J. Moran) am requesting warrants for Jamere Robert Edward's arrest for First Degree Murder, and Resist, Delay, Obstruct an Officer from Performing their Official Duties.
