The Saturday morning fatal accident on I-485 in Charlotte is of course tragic but when it claims six lives that is insane.
Five of the victims were from the same family. They included three kids aged 1, 3 and 8 and two adults. The 16-year-old driver of other vehicle also died.
It happened on I-485 near Wilkinson Boulevard, where multiple agencies were responding to that crash. Mecklenburg County EMS said that the crash happened just before noon and had the interstate shutdown for about five hours.
"We responded to a heartbreaking scene this morning for a fatal traffic accident on I-485, where 6 lives were lost," Mecklenburg EMS said in a statement. "We are still thinking of their loved ones who are now faced with unimaginable grief."
According to news sources, a close friend of the family has started a fundraiser with a goal of $10,000 to support the lone surviving child in the crash, as well as helping to pay for funerals for the multiple family members who passed away in the crash.
Just south of the I-85 interchange a Honda CRV drive by a 16 year old moved into the Chrysler's lane of travel and apparently struck the Chrysler causing both vehicles to leave the travel lanes and impact a stationary tractor trailer. The impact destroyed both vehicles killing all but the one passenger instantly.
CP has been endlessly bitching about the TOTAL LACK OF LAW ENFORCEMENT on 485 for the last three years.
Abandoned vehicles sit on the shoulder not for hours but for days. Tractor trailers routinely park on exit and on ramps and even on the shoulder.
It is unknown if speed was a factor in this accident but drivers traveling well over the speed limit is normal, with many routinely driving in excess of 100 miles per hour.
This is not late night hooligans or a street takeover, many of these people are recklessly breaking the law at all hours even mid morning on a Saturday.
It is as if North Carolina Highway Patrol simply does not exist in Gaston or Mecklenburg Counties.
Now this lack of Law Enforcement has killed 6 people. Our governors' hands are covered in the blood of these victims. CMPD and NC SHP are just as guilty.
We don’t have the resources for traffic enforcement outside of South Division.
ReplyDeletebut you have resources for a $300k butthurt bonus? Seriously???
DeleteCMPD.org/apply
DeleteThe other direction. On 485 has been a work zone for all of recent memory and 100 plus is standard fare. I get why NCSHP doesn’t want to pull folks but it’s out of hand.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would never pull over someone on the interstate unless they are wanted for a felony offense. It’s too dangerous.

DeleteYea. We can tell. So does the Challenger and Altima brigade. More than just pushing the traffic, they weave and dodge. High majority with no plates and no insurance.
DeleteI wouldn’t pull them over either with the support you get but when the basics get ignored, the city loses civility. That family of five doesn’t get a do-over.
Just saying, the NCDPS leadership team looks like a walking DEI billboard. I see why there was the push to make SHP a standalone branch.
They call it “opportunity and inclusion” now to avoid negative politics like “affordable housing”
DeleteType of stuf why i think we in good hands with our dui unit
ReplyDeleteThe unit of autistic retards who think they make a difference with trash tickets and don’t know how to paper a case?
DeleteAll of them? There are good people in that division
DeleteGroup who couldn’t make the cut in working divisions
Delete“Working Divisions” what’s that around here?
DeleteAnything except for those who prioritize spending 6 hours on a misdemeanor traffic charge
DeleteIs there a reason speed isn’t checked by air here? I know someone ticketed that way on I-95. Never pulled over, ticket arrived in mail. Wouldn’t work for fake paper tags, but it seems like worst offenders could be tracked until they stopped somewhere. Registering over a certain speed could alert tracking immediately.
ReplyDeleteUnconstitutional
DeleteI am often passed by cars going at least 100 mph on I-485–even on the shoulder. Cars racing each other at very high speeds weaving in and out of lanes is not unusual. I have called 911 on several occasions. Remember the perp who killed multiple people racing on 485 a few years ago? We definitely need some serious law enforcement on 485!
ReplyDeleteYour resources in Charloot are being driven to Cats and the boondoggle expansion. Beside selling the toll lanes to someone, there isn’t much graft to be had in traffic enforcement.
DeleteWhen you realize that’s where we are, then it becomes crystal clear that the city has become an unrecoverable dump akin to Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Youngstown, etc.
They threaten enforcement like they did last week. Not a single blue light anywhere on 485 during any of the multiple trips per day I take on it. It was common to see troopers on 485 before Covid, now…::nothing. Crisis management. Watch there will be a week long “effort” and then back to normal.
DeleteTraffic enforcement started to dwindle nationally after Ferguson MO. And I don’t blame them, but here we are
DeleteYou remember, Hands Up Don’t Shoot. The lie that started it all
Should not be surprised that JJ or any other nigger politician doesn't offer condolences when a car full of white people die. Just be glad they aren't openly dancing in the streets. I have no excuse for Col. Johnson except he's a bureaucratic idiot appointed by Roy Cooper so he's just keeping his head down. Bet he doesn't even know it happened.
ReplyDeleteThen stay out of Crowntown cracker
DeleteNiggertown
DeleteY’all need to make traffic stops on 485 right now
Delete1126, quit bitchin and go do the job yourself, otherwise stfu
DeleteWe got 38 open murder cases and you whining about speeding?
DeleteGet the DWI unit on it. Oh yeah they’re off majority of the time and when they’re here they’re in the office the whole time
DeleteWhy doesn’t the dwi team just pull over everyone leaving Mi Cabana or the equal type place? Used to work decades ago. I haven’t seen a dwi checkpoint in a loooong time. Especially on the east or north or west sides where we have a majority of drivers without proper insurance and plates. And are drinking if they’re out at 2am
DeleteThey’re scared to deal with black people so stay in south
DeleteGood days writing greenies and get paid a bonus
ReplyDeleteThey don’t even mow the grass so you expect traffic enforcement?
DeleteThey stopped mowing the e grass around the time Patrick McHenry’s family got the contract for the cutting decades ago
DeleteWants a patrol car hit with an officer inside during this?
