Another Shooting at Northlake Mall

According to local news 2 people were taken to a hospital after a shooting around 3 p.m. on Thursday at Northlake Mall.

The Starwood owned mall has been a never ending source of crime over the last several years.

Apparently a fight between the shooting victim and the suspect started inside the mall near Dillard’s, CMPD said. The suspect drew a gun and fired several shots, hitting two people, including an innocent bystander.

Witnesses said they heard a commotion from the second floor not far, from the food court entrance between Firebirds and H&M.

An on-duty CMPD officer assigned to the mall located the suspect and tried to detain him. The suspect dropped the gun and ran off. Officers caught up with the suspect and took him into custody.

After the situation was under control, Northlake officials asked officers to walk through the mall to let everyone know about the incident and tell them there was no ongoing threat.

The shooting victim involved in the fight was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and was released Thursday night, a mall spokesperson said. The innocent bystander remains under care with non-life-threatening injuries.

Friday morning, officials announced that one of the victims had been released from the hospital.

There will be an increased police presence at the mall and counselors will be available as employees return, the spokesperson said.

“It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, I would hope this type of activity would make people upset and worried all year round,” said CMPD Major Ryan Butler. “I would suggest any time you’re at a major public venue that you maintain situational awareness.”

Statement from Northlake Mall:

“Earlier this afternoon, Northlake Mall experienced an isolated shooter incident. The authorities were immediately contacted and the shooter was detained. There is no threat at this time. However, the mall will remain closed for the remainder of today. We are working with local authorities to better understand what transpired.”

On Friday CMPD confirmed that 3 suspects were arrested.

Xavior Grant Alexander DOB 10/31/2003 who was charged with AWDWIKISI and Attempted Murder.

and two additional males were also arrested:

Jadah Van Williams (DOB: 06/15/2001) – charged with assault

and an unnamed 17 year-old juvenile – charged with assault

Cedar's Take - Northlake is a mess. The demographic shift in Charlotte has turned the place into a cesspool of crime and a mecca of the drug trade. Which is good news for Concord Mills. Sadly Charlotte City Council re-zoning in favor of density saturation has driven the building of apartments versus single family homes. The oversupply has depressed rent roles and rental rates. Starwood has failed to address the problem and the end result will be another Eastland Mall.

  1. They're paying big bucks to work out there now. Any takers?

  2. Dude..it’s all black out there. Ton of Gangstas with sagging jeans and dreds. Like many places in Charlotte, things are going downhill fast with no answer. Good for the CMPD cop that caught the guy. The fight might have been black vs brown??

  3. Stupid MoFo he's gonna get his next time. Don't worry he'll be out in time for Christmas.

  4. That mall has gone to dirt long ago. Only a matter of time.

  5. Northlake is perfectly fine. This is just an isolated case. It happens around the Holidays unfortunately. Look at the poor Ellen DJ. I’m looking at a great lease there to open a Hallmark store for my wife and daughter in law.

  6. Cedar can you shine a light on this story. This is for Rowan County but a horrific case. This is Carlos Rosas Jr. He just plead to 2nd degree murder. They said he did not get life without parole because he had no criminal history, but there was some speculation when this happened that he wasn't legal. The case was kept pretty quiet. It sounds like he might have started dismembering the guy while he was still alive? He needed the death penalty. Why isn't this all over the news?

  8. If you can’t handle the truth on Meckurbia then go read the Charlotte Observer or watch WCNC.

  9. I don't understand the lack of charges. If this was a white guy there would be a dozen charges like armed to the terror, felon with a gun (you know this pos has priors) Taking a gun into a mall alone should be a ten year min. The the magistrate consolidated the two charges for bond. That's nuts.

  10. I go to that mall all the time. Could you imagine getting shot in Dillards while doing shopping? That’s how you go out in life? Dead in the perfume section.

That area is bad news, and a Popeyes just opened up across the street so expect robberies.

  11. Maybe cmpd will do hire backs and put them out there? Moorefield and King responding to Hot Topic with one bleeding out. Start Medic…

  12. 7:38- Medic ain’t responding, new response protocols. ETA:30-60 minutes. Good luck, use those fancy tourniquets and grab a Starbucks while you’re waiting. NorthLake and Concord Mills Daycare and Shooting Gallery (Chucky Cheese for Teenagers) are on their death spiral. The malls are still collecting rent, so until that stops, the bullshit gang takeover of those malls will continue. Haven’t been to a mall in years. Too dangerous. Nothing there I can’t get online and shipped free to my mailbox in Stanley County along with my City pension check. Charlotte is a septic tank.

  13. I went to CM yesterday to buy a toy. It was mostly minorities, too. White people just don’t go shopping at malls anymore. Pineville is bad too

    1. You can go anywhere around here and it’s majority minority. It’s not just the mall, go to any good restaurant. I tried date night Friday and Red Lobster was packed so we went to Yummy Crab. Not counting the Orientals running the place, we were the only white people.
Those folks must make some good money nowadays. Nice cars, eating out, clean kicks, shopping at the Apple Store and Michael Kors. The outlets are devoid of Caucasians. Can’t wait for the new Outback to open there!

    2. You can probably link the current scenery to the amount of apartments that have been built per Braxton and Vi. These people need to do to get out of that box, so they go spend spend spend at a restaurant like yummy crab or go sprawl at the mall for some Jordan’s. That’s their form of happiness and reduces self-hate.

If you go to the gym or trails it’s still good..for now.

  14. It sounds like Lombardo may be able to come back based on the DWI circumstances.

    1. Ummmm, no. The circumstances do not matter as it relates to employment . It means he may not be convicted on the charge but he won’t get his job back regardless. It sucks, but it’s not gonna happen.

  15. Meckurbia is a place where people can be open and honest about their true feelings without being targeted by the regimes of Charlotte. Cheers Cedar! Merry Christmas!

  16. If it’s really taking medic 30+ minutes to respond to a shooting then that’s horrible. Cops should not be responsible for medical treatment and scene security.

  18. You cannot enter even the nicest malls in Atlanta without going through a metal detector. We can't be too far behind.

  19. If I can’t carry at a mall in Charlotte then I would never go. This is not a school.
