Unfortunate Double Homicide Start To The July 4th Weekend

CMPD posted the following early this afternoon:

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 7300 block of Pebblestone Drive in the Independence Division.

On Wednesday, July 2, shortly after 12:00 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with injuries call for service in the 7300 block of Pebblestone Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals had sustained gunshot wounds and both were pronounced deceased by MEDIC at the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also assisted.

According to local media:

Two people were shot and killed in southeast Charlotte on Wednesday, Medic confirmed.

Multiple crews responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex on Pebblestone Drive, which is just off East Independence Boulevard and Village Lake Drive.

Medic confirmed two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives say they aren't looking for any suspects at this time.

No suspects which basically code speak for murder / suicide.

7348 C Pebblestone Drive is a townhome in the Village Lake Drive area between Monroe Road and Independence Blvd.

Once a sought after address Village Lake like it's sister property Sharon Lakes off of South Blvd was developed in the 1980s with rapid success but a demographic shift beginning in 2000 led to ever declining property values which have rebounded based on a 2023 County Wide Revaluation. More as it develops .

  1. What is wrong with officers today? Got guns being pointed at them on calls and traffic stops but all they do is run away now.

    4. Why don’t they shoot at them? Are they worried about JJ or the “Jack Attack”?

    5. Sad to see scared cops on 3rd shift. That’s how we end up with the COC that we have today

  2. Sounded like a murder suicide based on how cool and responded and how they didn’t answer questions

  3. If it is 7348 C Pebblestone Drive as Cedar says above that unit is listed as being owned by Genea Council who used to own it with her husband Samuel Council. The two of them are career dead beats. Sad end to a life of thieving if is her. Just saying.

    1. Media brief said they were not seeking any suspects…

    2. That’s assumed in Charlotte. They never catch anyone. I just assumed that’s saying the part out loud. Yea, we ain’t hunting for the killer because it was on the wrong side of town. Probably all hands on deck looking for Kyle Fleischmann still but hunting clues in East Clt? Nope

    3. It wasn't a fact. Someone said bingo who has no clue

    4. 0718 is spot on the owner is correct and it is a murder suicide. The Vic and the property owner are not the same woman.

  6. Congrats to the detective that put 71 charges on one person for LFA and stone guns. We have fun on Meckurbia and give thanks when it is due to certain people.

  7. General semi related question. Does anyone know why every single homicide date that CMPD lists on CrimeMapper and other resources is wrong? Not kidding Not a joke. Serious question.

    1. We just had someone die at home, and another supervisor committed suicide.

That’s why the numbers are wrong.

    2. CMPD officer suicide?

    3. Because in the drive to automate crime analysis misses the point… it’s not just data, it’s peoples lives. The entire unit needs new blood and new outside supervision.

  8. Is CMPD going to report on the sheer chaos last night in Uptown on July 4th? Or are they going to pretend everything was fine and dandy like in the press release for July 3rd?

  9. We have to have HR sit in every interview because we had a few bad captains and majors making bogus decisions. You actually trust the numbers that we publish? It takes 2 hours for an officer to arrive for a 10-50. We don’t even care about stats anymore, Cedar.
