Another Weekend Another Child Shot in Charlotte - Updated

According to the local media a juvenile remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after becoming the third person shot in October at the same east Charlotte apartment community, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The identity of the child has not been released.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in an apartment community that uses the address of Trousdale Drive, a public road that did not exist in 2022.

This shooting was also where one person died in a “justified homicide” and another was wounded on Oct. 5, CMPD said in their news release.

Police say the latest victim a child three years old was found and taken to a hospital after someone reported an assault with a deadly weapon.

Details of how the shooting happened have not been released, but “detectives are speaking to all parties involved.” “We are not looking for any outstanding suspects,” CMPD said.

Cedar Update:

According to CMPD:

As a result of the investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit have obtained arrest warrants for a suspect in this case.

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, detectives arrested Mr. Kono Holloway, 21. Mr. Holloway was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade Street) to speak with detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Holloway was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Storing a Firearm in Manner Accessible to a Minor.

Mr. Holloway is the father of the victim in this case. Of course this is not Mr. Holloway's first rodeo.

Of the above arrests only one wasn't dismissed by the Mecklenburg County DAs Office, the June 29, 2024 arrest. The judge's order was 30 days and surrender the weapon related to the case. However there is no record that Holloway served the time or surrendered the weapon.

The The apartments were Holloway apparently lives are marketed under the name East Side Flats which has a crazy urban Chicago feel. Now with these shootings the vibe is totally South Side Chicago.

Plus the rent is crazy cheap according to their web site a 2 bedroom 2 bath "flat rents for only $735.00 a month. There's a catch in order to rent the 2 bedroom unit a couple must earn less than $60,000 combined annually. If you can stand having say
8 people per Household in a three bedroom unit you can earn up to $98,000.00 combined.

Obviously they don't conduct any background checks.

The man killed Oct. 5 was identified as 50-year-old Demetrius Leon Allen, CMPD said. He was found around 11 p.m., police said.

“Officers also found a second victim on scene suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. That victim was transported by MEDIC with non-life threatening injuries,” officials said. An investigation concluded the killing “justified,” but details of the confrontation have not been released.

  2. This low income housing which is well just what you might expect. A freaking cesspool of crime. What a great addition to East Charlotte. Thanks mayor Lyles and Charlotte City Council who voted unanimously to approve this project 3 years ago.

  3. Hello everyone,

We need to start talking about the amount of officers we are losing each year to resignation and transfers. How do we fill these roles? What can Jessica and Christy do to appeal to the studs of Charloot?

    2. 810, what about military recruits or tradesmen? Can we get them to sign up for a few years of action? We offer free tuition to CPCC.

    3. I think we need to get away from the Wes Kerrick situation for 10 years or longer. It put our agency in a bad image and scared away talent. The higher salary helps, but the lack of government support is obvious to many in this area. It’s hard to hide blunders like Chapman and others. I do believe respect will return to policing, but bad things need to happen, first. NIMBY

    4. Start with getting rid of the spineless corporation style managers and promote leaders instead is a start. A lot of pussies who got rank cause they can recite bullshit policies.

    5. ^agreed.

Also, the BWC scares away a ton of people. You are guilty no matter what with black people.

    6. I don’t think people realize how many people are taking drugs for various reasons. That eliminates them from consideration for employment. It makes our roads dangerous to drive on in Charlotte.

    7. There are problems with supervisors being taken seriously by military and trades workers. Another factor to consider for yearly adjustments.

    8. Policing was considered a step up from construction jobs for several decades. However, the pay and standards did not stay above construction positions. That caused men to adjust their career paths and stay in labor positions. Let’s make the pay and perks better than Choat constuction company and see hat stirs up?

  6. If more affordable housing solutions were brought to Charlotte, fewer people would need to steal to put food on their tables. Those rents are reasonable and can allow families to thrive. Bring them to Eastland, Ballantyne, the Hwy 51 site, river district. Everywhere.
